Answering Your Questions About Orthodontics

Answering Your Questions About Orthodontics

Whether you’re dealing with gaps in your teeth, overbite issues, or misalignment, there are a range of orthodontic treatments available to suit your preferences and requirements, but with so many options available it can be hard to settle on the right choice for you. That’s why we’ll be answering the most common questions that people have about orthodontics in this blog, including what options are available at Riverside Dental Spa, how they work, and who they are suitable for.

1.  What is Orthodontics?

This particular branch of dentistry aims to diagnose, prevent, and treat any irregularities in the teeth and jaw, from mild cosmetic concerns all the way up to severe misalignment that causes pain and can even prevent you from eating and speaking.

2.  What Treatments are Available?

Braces, retainers, and any other appliances that correct alignment issues all class as orthodontic treatments. Here at Riverside Dental Spa, we offer both Invisalign and Six Month Smiles treatments to rectify any alignment issues and make a long-lasting difference to your confidence, comfort, and appearance.

3.  Who Needs These Treatments?

Whilst we often see braces as a treatment reserved only for children and teenagers, issues with teeth and jaws can affect anyone at any point in their lives. Whether you have difficulty chewing and speaking, or your overbite is causing continued discomfort, we will assess your condition and get you started on the right treatment for you.

4.  How Long Does Realignment Take?

Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners to gradually shift your teeth into a better alignment by swapping them out for new ones every few weeks. The process timeline is different for every patient and can take from 3 months to 18 months depending upon the severity of your misalignment, but you will start to see noticeable results within just a few months.

So, if you are pushed for time ahead of a big event, or you don’t have the time to wear aligners for extended periods, then Six Month Smiles might be the better option. This fast-acting treatment does exactly what it says on the box and only takes an average of 6 months to realign teeth.

5.  Is Orthodontics Painful?

Whilst you may experience some discomfort whilst your teeth adjust to the gentle pressure of the aligners, both treatments are designed to be as comfortable as possible whilst still delivering the results that our patients expect.

These removable aligners are also widely praised as a significant improvement on metal braces, as they are made of clear plastic rather than metal and don’t come with the same risk of discomfort.

6.  Are Any Lifestyle Changes Required?

Opting for Invisalign does require you to wear your aligners for the recommended amount of time each day, which can be up to 22 hours and include overnight. However, aside from this, you can remove your aligners to eat, drink, and clean your teeth without affecting your treatment.

Six Month Smiles is a fixed brace treatment, so whilst you may need to avoid hard or sticky foods, this is only for the short amount of time that you will need to wear them, and after 6 months you will be able to go about your usual routine with a brand new smile.

7.  How Long Do the Results Last?

Both of the treatments that we offer are designed to last a lifetime - but maintaining your new smile does require a commitment on your end. This includes caring for your teeth by brushing twice a day and flossing and attending the recommended dental checkups, but you may also need to wear retainers at night for a few weeks after the treatment has ended to stop the teeth from shifting back into their original position.

8.  How Much Does Treatment Cost?

All of our orthodontic treatments start from £3000, including the full set of aligners, and come with a completely free consultation with our practitioners.

We also offer a range of membership payment plans and the option to spread the cost of your treatment across 12 months with our 0% finance option, so take a look at our Fee Guide and find the best dental plan for your alignment journey.
